The new Facebook Groups are an entirely new product unlike the Facebook Groups feature of the past. With Facebook groups you can create a social network within the social network. Essentially creating a section of facebook that only you and a select few individuals from your friends list have access to. This has some advantages. Namely you and certain friends can have a private space to discuss subjects not suited to or uninteresting to a larger group. Each group also comes with a group chat, however since the group chat cannot be turned off individually it has the potential to become noisy and irritating in larger and more vocal groups. Also while it is possible to add friends to a group without their permission, it is not suggested that you do so, since this is frowned upon by the general population of Facebook. It is assumed that facebook will make groups opt-in eventually and that they will have a means for silencing noisy group chats.
